The popularity of agricultural shows such as the Royal Norfolk Show demonstrates the continued importance of farming interacting with consumers, according to a leading agricultural business advisor.

Chris Solt, agricultural partner at accountants, business advisers and financial planners, Lovewell Blake, said that the fact that around 90,000 people attended the two-day event shows the interest and support that farming has in the local community – and that nurturing that enthusiasm is crucial to the long-term success of the sector.

The firm had a major presence at the Show, hosting hundreds of clients and contacts in a large marquee across the two days, reflecting its position as one of the leading agriculture, food and drink sector advisors in the region.

“Although much business is done at events like this, in some ways it is the opportunity for farming to demonstrate how important it is to the wider economy which is the real benefit of the Show,” said Mr Solt.

“It is vital for agriculture to fly the flag and interact with the general public, not only because it is such an important part of the local economy, but also because the goodwill of the local population translates into action by local and national government to champion the sector.”
