LATEST FARMERS’ EVENING TO FOCUS ON CYBER CRIME AND RURAL POLICING

7th Mar 2017

A prominent cyber crime expert and Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner will be helping farmers to tackle crime at the latest Lovewell Blake Farmers’ Evening which takes place in Halesworth on Wednesday 15th March.

Joe Cooksey, one of Barclays’ Business Digital Eagles, and an acknowledged expert on cyber crime, will be giving local agricultural businesses the chance to find out more about the most common online threats to their business, and how they can take action to tackle them before an attack takes place.

Mr Cooksey will show just how easy it is for criminals to attack a business, and demonstrate how to prevent invoice fraud and counter common cyber-attacks.

Meanwhile Tim Passmore, Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, will be giving an update on rural policing, and taking questions from farmers on crime and policing issues – not just online crime.

“This Cyber security workshop will provide a useful overview of the cyber crime landscape and provide practical advice on the steps that agricultural businesses can take to protect themselves,” said Brian Bale, agricultural services partner at Lovewell Blake, who will chair the meeting.

“The agricultural sector is not immune from cyber crime, and it could affect any of us at any time, so we all need to be on our guard.  We are delighted to have two prominent experts at this event who can provide the very latest information and advice to help prevent farmers becoming victims of this kind of crime.”

Joe Cooksey added, “We regularly hear from our business customers that there has been cyber fraud attempts made against them, and unfortunately some of these have been successful.  These scams are becoming increasingly convincing, but there are simple precautions businesses can take to reduce the risk.”

The Farmers’ Evening is one of a series of such presentations organised by Lovewell Blake’s agriculture team, in conjunction with Suffolk Coastal NFU.   The event takes place at Halesworth Golf Club on Wednesday 15th March at 7.30pm, and will include a buffet.  Attendance is free; to book a place, call Brian Bale on 01986 873163 or email b.bale@lovewell-blake.co.uk
