A sod-cutting ceremony has marked the start of work on an exclusive development of just five new homes on a two acre site in Gressenhall, near Dereham.

Paul LeGrice, managing director of Watton-based house builder Abel Homes, along with production manager Robert Loudoun, broke ground at the site, off Bittering Street in the village.

The firm is to build three four-bedroom houses and two four-bedroom bungalows on the site, with each new home standing in unusually large plots.

Designed by Norwich-based architects David Futter Associates, the new homes will be built to a traditional design to fit in with the existing village environment – but they will boast the latest energy-efficient features such as air source heat pumps, underfloor heating, solar photovoltaic panels and triple glazing, as well as superfast fibre broadband to the premises.

Digging the first sod, Abel Homes managing director Paul LeGrice said, “We are delighted to have started work on this small-scale development of five family homes in Gressenhall.  By building just five new homes on the site, each one will stand in a substantial plot.

“We have worked very hard to create a design of home which fits in with the village nature of the site, creating five traditionally styled  new homes.

“But that doesn’t mean that they won’t be built with the most up-to-date features; each home will receive a top-rated ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency, and the interiors have been designed with modern family living very much in mind.”

The new homes will be released for sale early in the new year, to enable buyers to individualise their new homes with specific finishes such as flooring, tiling and kitchen design. Anyone interested in the new homes can register their interest at www.abelhomes.co.uk.
