WATERCOLOUR OF LANDMARK NORWICH RESTAURANT CARRIES OFF PRESTIGIOUS SPONSOR’S CHOICE AWARD AT ROYAL NORFOLK SHOW ART EXHIBITION

A watercolour painting of a landmark Norwich restaurant has carried off the prestigious Sponsor’s Choice Award at the Royal Norfolk Show Art Exhibition this year.
Colin Revell won the prize after his picture ‘The Ivy, Norwich’ was picked out by judges from Art Exhibition sponsor Arnolds Keys, who praised the painting’s impressionistic style and ‘instant recognisability’.
A carpenter by profession, earlier this year Mr Revell was one of just 48 artists in the UK selected to appear on the Sky Arts programme ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’. He has been painting for 30 years, and can often be seen creating his art on the streets of Norwich.
“What really stood out is that Colin has absolutely captured this iconic Norwich landmark, and yet in an impressionistic style which perfectly captures the movement and drama of a busy service on the restaurant’s terrace,” said Arnolds Keys managing partner Guy Gowing.
“As ever the range of art in the exhibition was to a very high standard, including many excellent paintings and sculptures.”
More than 350 works by Norfolk artists were on display in the Show’s Art Exhibition, with many being snapped up by show visitors early on the first day.
RNS Art Exhibition head steward Tom Cringle added, “It is great to have so many amazing artists at the Show representing the best in local work. We are very grateful for the public support both in visiting the exhibition and buying the artworks, and to Arnolds Keys for once again sponsoring the Art Exhibition.”
