Residents at a housing with care scheme in Downham Market enjoyed a special party to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the scheme.

Its oldest resident, 95 year-old Ted Muchmore, was joined by deputy manager Diane Blackmur, who has worked there since it opened, in cutting a special celebratory cake to mark the occasion.  Residents also enjoyed music from the 60s, 70s and 80s performed by a local entertainer.

Oakes Court was built by Broadland Housing Association in 2005, and provides accommodation for up to 45 residents in 40 flats, with care and support provided by Norse Care.  A number of flats are available with specialist care and support for people living with dementia.

The scheme has communal areas where tenants can socialise and enjoy a range of activities, many of which are organised by the residents themselves.

Katie Docherty, senior local delivery manager at Broadland Housing Association, said, “Oakes Court is a real success story, with quality accommodation, a high quality of care and support from the staff from Norse care, and a real sense of community.

“The party revealed the sense of fun amongst the residents, who not only enjoyed a celebratory afternoon tea, but sang along and even danced to the live music.”

Oakes Court is holding an open day for potential residents and their families on Wednesday 30th July from 10am to 2pm.  Visitors will be able to take a tour of the scheme and chat to staff.  Anyone who would like to attend can find out more and register their interest by visiting https://www.broadlandgroup.org/our-homes/find-a-home/housing-with-care.
