An iconic Norwich restaurant is to become a showcase for East Anglian artists – with a constantly changing exhibition of pictures on the wall, all of which will be for sale to diners.

The Last Wine Bar, in St George’s Street, has teamed up with art curator Sarah Young to mount the art showcase, with the first pictures, by Norwich University of the Arts graduate and Norwich 20 group member Gennadiy Ivanov, unveiled in the Last’s bar area.

These will soon be joined by works by other artists in the new brasserie, which opens at the end of August, and the cellar, leading to a constantly rotating exhibition of dozens of paintings by local artists.

Each artist will be featured for a three month period, with works which are sold replaced with new pictures during that time.

“We are very excited at becoming a showcase for East Anglian artists to show their pictures, and hopefully find buyers,” said Lynda Baxter, a director at The Last Wine Bar.  “The initiative also means that we will have a constantly changing exhibition of pictures on our walls, creating an interesting and attractive environment for our diners.”

Curator Sarah Young is keen to hear from local artists who might want to be featured in the future at the Last Wine Bar. “This is a long-term commitment from The Last Wine Bar to support local artists, so we will be looking for new artists to showcase in the future,” she said.
