Watton-based renewable energy firm Abel Energy has announced two new contracts worth over £1 million between them.

Essex-based Bioline AgroSciences has commissioned Abel Energy to install a 1 megawatt biomass boiler, together with a 1.2 megawatt oil-fired back-up boiler, at its Clacton facility.

The heat generated from the installation will be circulated to service a six acre glass house used to cultivate biological pest control for crop management in the agricultural sector – a business where reliability of heat and reducing overall energy costs is very important.  The investment in renewable heat will provide the company with increased energy and fuel security, as well as reducing the carbon cost associated with the cultivation process.

Meanwhile Norfolk-based Pips Skips has signed a contract with Abel Energy to install a 1 megawatt biomass boiler at its East Tuddenham facility.  The company currently recycles 93 per cent of the waste which enters its recycling centre, with the aim increase this to 100 per cent.

The heat generated by the new biomass boiler will be used to run a dryer for recycled material as well as heating the company’s office premises and workshop, which has previously relied on oil-fired heating.  The installation will benefit the company with huge fuel savings as well as enabling them to add a new process to their recycling facility and business model.

Managing director of Abel Energy Chris Abel said, “These are two large contracts which show that the market for renewable energy in the commercial sector is still very buoyant.  Both these new clients’ businesses depend on high energy use, and they have recognised the financial and reputational benefit of embracing green energy.

“The combination of economic factors and legislation to reduce the impact on the environment of industrial processes has led to a high demand for renewable energy.  We have worked closely with a wide variety of businesses to reduce their energy costs and provide a financially attractive alternative to meet energy and heat requirements.”

Abel Energy is part of the Abel Group and specialises in supplying renewable energy to commercial and agricultural clients throughout UK, offering expertise in biomass, CHP (combined heat and power) and Solar PV solutions.
