A Norwich chef is celebrating British Sandwich Week with the creation of the Ultimate Norfolk Piggy Club Sandwich – featuring a whole range of produce from the county.

The pork-fest sandwich will be available at The Britons Arms throughout the week-long celebration of the British sandwich, which takes place from 20th to 26th May.

Britons Arms chef-proprietor Richard Ellis has created the monster club sandwich featuring pork from British Lop pigs at Thatched House Farm at Norton Subcourse, smoked Norfolk Dapple cheese, eggs from Lime Tree Farm in Hempnall, Kettle Chips, locally-foraged wild garlic, and bread made by Ketts Hill Bakery in Norwich.

“Our sandwiches and toasties are always a popular part of our lunch menu, so we thought we would push the boat out to celebrate British Sandwich Week,” said Mr Ellis.

“We have built up great working relationships with so many local suppliers and producers, especially Thatched House Farm which supplies all of our pork products, so I thought I would create a club sandwich which showcased the pork from their British Lop pigs, as well as several other Norfolk delicacies.”

The bottom half of the club sandwich features Kettle Chips, homemade wild garlic aioli, gammon, a fried egg, homemade sauerkraut and a homemade shallot relish.

The middle layer consists of a slice of smoked Norfolk Dapple rarebit, made with Norfolk mustard and beer from Ampersand Brewery in Diss.

The top layer of the sandwich has crispy belly pork, sausage, black pudding, roast shoulder of pork with crackling, mushroom, apple puree and homemade pickles.

The Ultimate Norfolk Piggy Club Sandwich is available at The Briton Arms from Monday 20th May until Sunday 26th May.  It comes with a side salad and crisps, and costs £14.50.
