Residents in a Norwich care home for people with sight loss will soon be enjoying the benefits of a spa treatment room, thanks to a gift from the fund set up to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

The Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind has been given £2,500 from The Patron’s Fund, set up to acknowledge the work of the charitable organisations for which the Queen acts as a Patron.

"We're very proud of our Royal patronage, which the charity has enjoyed for over 80 years," said NNAB chief executive Mike Talbot.  "We had an exciting, if slightly damp, time helping the Queen celebrate in The Mall last summer, as well as our own Patron's Lunch events at our care home and supported housing in Norwich.

"Now those celebrations will have a permanent legacy, as this gift will go towards a new spa treatment room we are developing especially for the blind and partially sighted residents in our care home, Thomas Tawell House."

Around £750,000 is available to distribute between nearly 300 charities and other organisations in the UK and the Commonwealth. The Patron's Fund received generous donations from a range of supporters; including individual donors, businesses, schools, community groups and the proceeds from The Patron’s Lunch, the event on the Mall last June.

Sir Stuart Etherington, Chair of The Board of Trustees for The Patron’s Fund, said: "The Patron’s Fund is very pleased to be able to support the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind and its valuable work. The NNAB is among hundreds of organisations for which The Queen acts as a Patron, which between them make a difference to causes and communities across the UK and throughout the Commonwealth."
