NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES HANDED OVER IN BURNHAM MARKET

9th Apr 2017
Christine Candlish of Victory Housing Trust left hands the keys over to Caitlin Finan son Alfie and dog Jessie

The keys have been handed over to four brand new affordable homes in Burnham Market – more evidence of a big investment in new affordable homes being made by Victory Housing Trust

The four new homes, at Sandells Walk in the popular north Norfolk village, represent a £567,000 investment by the Trust, with a two-bedroom house and a three-bedroom house being made available for affordable rent, and two two-bedroom houses being offered for shared ownership.

First to receive their keys was Caitlin Finan and her two year-old son Alfie, moving into one of the affordable rented homes.  The pair, along with their dog Jessie, have been living in one room at Caitlin’s mum’s house in Heacham, and have been on the housing list for just over a year.

“It’s really good to have my independence and feel like I’m doing things for myself finally,” said Caitlin, as she received the keys to her new home from Christine Candlish of Victory.  “The house is really lovely – as soon as I saw it I really wanted it.  I’m really looking forward to making it a home.”

Christine Candlish said, “Villages like Burnham Market are just the sort of places where we need more affordable homes.  As well as a high level of second home ownership, the cost of housing has got to a stage where many local people simply can’t afford to live here.

“This is why Victory has undertaken to accelerate our development of new affordable homes, building 850 new homes in the coming five years, or one every 2.14 days.  The need has never been so great.”

Last month Victory announced a £130 million investment programme between 2017 and 2022, with £80 million allocated to building new homes, and a further £50 million to be invested in improving and maintaining its existing stock.
