LOWESTOFT DEVELOPER ANNOUNCES THREE NEW CONTRACTS WITH COMBINED VALUE OF £5 MILLION

Lowestoft-based developer Wellington has been awarded three new contracts worth more than £5 million to build new homes for housing associations in the area.

The firm has been chosen by three of the region’s leading social landlords to lead on the development of a total of 46 new homes in Acle and Lowestoft.

The new contracts are:

  • To build 36 new homes for Crocus, a subsidiary of Saffron Housing Trust.  The £4 million contract will see Wellington build a mixture of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, which will be a mixture of open-market and affordable homes.  Construction will start in the summer.
  • To build eight new affordable homes on the former council office site on White Horse Street in Lowestoft, for Orbit Housing Association.  Building work on this £880,000 contract will start towards the end of this month.
  • To build two new affordable homes for Orwell Housing Association on Bourne Road, Lowestoft, in a contract worth £260,000.

“The fact that these contracts have been placed with an independent local firm means that the work will be carried out by local employees and contractors, which doesn’t just keep the financial value of the contracts within the local economy, but also allows us to provide new opportunities and apprenticeships.

“Even before the announcement of these new contracts, we are already building new homes at eight sites in Norfolk and Suffolk, with several more in the pipeline.  It’s a double win – we are providing jobs for local people, and building affordable homes for local people to live in.”
