One of the biggest major farm equipment sales in Norfolk for many years takes place next week, when the entire fleet of Paul Gunther’s Contracting equipment goes under the hammer following his retirement after 52 years as an agricultural contractor.

The huge collection of machinery being sold by Irelands on Wednesday 7th February at Fir Covert Farm in Felthorpe includes 15 Massey Ferguson Tractors, two Claas Foragers, eight Bunning Muck Spreaders, three JCB Loading Shovels, ten Bailey Trailers, two Giant loaders and a JCB excavator, plus numerous other items.

There are around 500 lots in the sale, including workshop tools and equipment, farm machinery and equipment, telehandlers, loaders and forklifts, as well as a huge selection of miscellaneous related items.

“This is one of the biggest sales of major farm equipment in Norfolk for many years and we have interest from as far afield as Poland,” said Simon Evans of Irelands.

“Paul Gunther Contracting has been one of the biggest names in Norfolk agriculture for the best part of 50 years, and the business was renowned for investing in modern equipment, even working with manufacturers to develop new prototypes, such as the Highlander muck-spreaders from Norfolk firm G.T.Bunning.”

Paul Gunther Contracting was set up in 1965, and in the next 50 years provided contracting services to farms, as well as landscaping many of the county’s golf courses.  Mr Gunther announced his retirement and the closure of the contracting business last year.

The auction takes place at Fir Covert farm in Felthorpe on Wednesday 7th February from 10am.  Viewing is on Tuesday 6th February between 10am and 4pm.  Full details of the sale, and a downloadable catalogue, can be found at www.irelands.co.uk.  Live online bidding will be available during the sale at www.i-bidder.com
