‘GREAT BRITISH FAKE-OFF BAKE-OFF CAKE-OFF’ TO RAISE MONEY FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
Older people living in a sheltered scheme in Norwich have taken inspiration from Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith – and are taking part in their own baking competition to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Residents at Norwich Housing Society’s Eleanor Road complex, along with members of the Society’s staff, are gearing up for their ‘Great British Fake-Off Bake-Off Cake-Off’ event on Thursday 21st September – and now they are inviting neighbours to take part, either by baking a cake, or coming to the event to enjoy the competitors’ bakes.
Once the judging has taken place, slices of the cakes will be sold off to raise money for the charity – either to enjoy there and then with a cup of tea or coffee, or to take away.
“Who doesn’t love cake?” said scheme manager Sue Closs. “With the Great British Bake Off back on TV, it seems everyone is baking, and our residents came up with the idea of harnessing that enthusiasm to raise money for a charity which touches many people’s lives.
“We would love to welcome anyone to Eleanor Road to enjoy the event, either by baking a cake or simply coming along to enjoy a slice of someone else’s efforts.”
The event takes place from 11am on Thursday 21st September at the Eleanor Road complex, and all are welcome on the day. Anyone wanting to contribute a cake is asked to bring it to the complex on the afternoon of Wednesday 20th September; prospective bakers can contact Sue Closs for more details at scloss@norwichhousingsociety.co.uk.
The Eleanor Road complex has 38 flats spread across five buildings, each surrounded by colourful gardens. The scheme is one of seven run by Norwich Housing Society across the city.
