Roger Hickman’s Restaurant in Norwich has been named in the Top 100 regional restaurants in the UK – and has also received a prestigious accolade for its wine list.

The Upper St Giles Street restaurant was voted the 52nd best in the country in the annual SquareMeal Best UK Restaurant survey, which sees thousands of reviewers and diners take part in the poll to name the country’s best 100 dining establishments outside London.

The restaurant – the only one in the city to hold three AA Rosettes – was the top scoring Norfolk establishment in the poll, and only one of three restaurants in the county to feature (Benedicts in Norwich coming in at 75, and Morston Hall at 83).

SquareMeal described Roger Hickman’s as ‘immensely likeable’ with ‘fabulous food’ displaying ‘sharply defined seasonal flavours’ and ‘thoughtfully sourced and sympathetically handled ingredients.

At the same time, Hickman’s has once again been awarded a prestigious ‘Notable Wine List’ award from the AA for the variety and quality of its wine list – putting it in the top 200 restaurant wine lists in the UK.

It is the third year in a row that the restaurant has won the award, in recognition of the carefully chosen list, which includes around 120 wines sourced from a variety of regional and national wine merchants.

“We are delighted to receive these two accolades,” said chef-proprietor Roger Hickman.  “The SquareMeal award is voted for by thousands of real diners, and then moderated by a team of professional reviewers, so it is a really meaningful award.  We are very proud to be named the best restaurant in Norfolk, and in the Top 100 regional restaurants nationally.

“The AA Notable Wine List award goes alongside our three AA Rosettes, and is recognition of the significant effort we put into ensuring our wine list complements the food that we serve.”

Roger Hickman’s restaurant opened in 2010, and has won numerous accolades since, including The Good Food Guide’s Best Restaurant in East Anglia, and the EDP Food Award Best Restaurant award two years on the trot.
