An atmospheric acrylic painting of the Norfolk coast has carried off the prestigious Sponsor’s Choice Award at the Royal Norfolk Show Art Exhibition this year – recognising the work of a self-taught Norfolk artist.

Sarah Long won the prize after her picture ‘Tidal Light’ was picked out by judges from Art Exhibition sponsor Arnolds Keys, who praised the picture’s moody use of subdued colour and dramatic composition

A self-taught artist and mindful art facilitator, Sarah Long discovered a passion for art during lockdown, saying that it offers her ‘an essential space to reflect and reconnect, a place for free self-expression’.

Based at Earsham Hall near Bungay, she also runs art courses and workshops, describing herself as ‘passionate about helping others unlock their own creative potential’.

“In an exhibition where the standard was again very high, Sarah’s painting stood out as a deeply atmospheric take on the traditional Norfolk landscape picture,” said Arnolds Keys managing partner Nick Williams.

“Once again the range of art in the exhibition was to a very high standard, including many excellent paintings and sculptures.”

More than 350 works by Norfolk artists were on display in the Show’s Art Exhibition, with many being snapped up by show visitors early on the first day.
